The Carrier – #8 Sophie Hannah

The Carrier is published on 24/4/14 in paperback

An edge-of-your-seat novel from the phenomenal Sophie Hannah.

When her plane is delayed overnight, Gaby Struthers finds herself forced to share a hotel room with a stranger: a terrified young woman named Lauren Cookson – but why is she scared of Gaby in particular? Lauren won’t explain.

Instead, she blurts out something about an innocent man going to prison for a murder he didn’t commit, and Gaby soon suspects that Lauren’s presence on her flight can’t be a coincidence. Because the murder victim is Francine Breary, the wife of the only man Gaby has ever truly loved.

Tim Breary has confessed, and even provided the police with evidence. The only thing he hasn’t given them is a motive. He claims to have no idea why he murdered his wife…

I just LOVE this series. I started reading them this year, after discovering the author on twitter. I quickly read one after another, with absolute joy. Sophie Hannah creates a wonderful world of twists and turns, with great characters and fun plot twists. She is a genius. She has the most fascinating pair of detectives on the case, that have the strangest relationship; the amazing Charlie and Simon. An absolute must read  for the lover of brilliantly clever detective series!!!

My review as posted on Goodreads

Totally gripping read. The most recent Sophie Hannah book takes us once again into the realms of twisted, sad relationships and how they make nice people turn evil. A woman, Francine is murdered and those around her spin webs of lies to the police. Her husband admits he did it, but refuses to say why. Simon and Charlie look for the truth amidst all the deception.

Once again we get an amazing read, that makes you wonder and stretches your thinking throughout. I thought the ending was just perfect. The poetry throughout the book was well used and quite clever.

I feel gutted to have read all of this series. I am going to miss Simon and his super brain, the crazy Proust and the messed up relationships that abound. Charlie’s sister deserves a special mention for her two men on the go relationship. Roll on the next book and more tales of Simon and co. Hope it’s soon!

About Northern Crime

Reviewer with a mind of her own. This is a collection of book reviews, which started in 2014. Mostly crime and odd other genres thrown in. Some I loved. Some I loathed. You get the picture.
