Exposure – Ava Marsh

Published on 16 June 2016 by Random House UK, Transworld Publishers

Kitty Sweet isn’t like anyone you’ve ever met before.

She’s an infamous porn star, imprisoned for double murder. As damaged as she is charismatic, as dangerous as she is charming.

But once no different from you or I.

Kitty’s past is full of heartbreak and desperation, of adulation and glamour. Of ruin. She’s descended to an underworld most people can only imagine, and lived to tell the tale . . .

This is her story.

This was read as a ‘buddy read’ with the lovely Liz of Liz Loves Books. Here is Liz’s review: http://lizlovesbooks.com/lizlovesbooks/2016-spotlight-exposure-by-ava-marsh/. We both adored it!

My thoughts

Exposure is the follow up to Untouchable, the erotic thriller we all loved to bits last year. Ava Marsh has done it again, with a fabulously sexy and dark tale of a young woman’s fall from grace.

The taboo adult entertainment industry is centre stage. If you have ever read any autobiographies of porn stars, with their warts and all lurid stories, then this is exactly what you get here. An eye opening and shocking account of what actually goes on behind the sex scenes. Everything has a sense of sad realism about it. Poor Kitty. I do not think many people would want to walk in her shoes.

Leanne is drawn into the dark world of pornography, with its ‘anything goes’ morality. Leanne needs money, so she takes off her clothes for some fast cash. Soon Leanne has gone SO much further, performing sex acts on camera and finding her feet in this hidden seedy world. She becomes Kitty Sweet, porn star. She is soon a name in the adult industry. Kitty ends up in prison, accused of double murder. Whilst in prison, Kitty is encouraged to give her version of what led her to a prison sentence by her therapist. How did Kitty become a killer? What is the true story behind the glamorous porn star?

I loved Kitty Sweet. Loved everything about her. Kitty is naive and so very likeable. She does not see the long term implications of becoming involved in the porn industry or how it will shape her life. She is forever judged or exploited, by the very people who have watched her have sex on film, by the rest of society and by those who make porn. I wanted to protect her from herself. She is a girl in need of a hug!

This is such a fabulous gritty read. If you have never read anything about the adult porn industry, you will find it a tad shocking in its explicitness. From what I have read about the adult entertainment industry, Ava Marsh gives us a pretty accurate account of its scary side. Kitty Sweet is unforgettable. Recommended.

About Northern Crime

Reviewer with a mind of her own. This is a collection of book reviews, which started in 2014. Mostly crime and odd other genres thrown in. Some I loved. Some I loathed. You get the picture.
