Missing by Ed James – Blog Tour REVIEW

Missing is available now on Amazon here

A new series from the bestselling author of the Detective Scott Cullen Scottish crime novels.

Meet PC Craig Hunter of Edinburgh’s Local Policing Unit. Ex-Army. Ex-CID. Back in uniform.

A straightforward domestic call out twists out of control when 16-year-old schoolgirl Stephanie Ferguson alleges her stepfather, Doug Ferguson, has been abusing her. Hunter is soon working with DS Chantal Jain of Police Scotland’s Sexual Offences Unit to kick off the prosecution. But before a full statement can be taken, Stephanie disappears from hospital.

Now, Hunter must hunt the girl down before anyone else can. Where has Stephanie gone? Did she run? Or did someone take her? Will he get to the truth before it gets beaten into lies? Or before Stephanie is silenced for good…? And why does this case keep throwing up old enemies from Hunter’s past?

MISSING is a fast-paced police procedural, full of action and suspense that will grip you until its breathless conclusion.

My thanks to Linda Boa of Crimeworm for inviting me on the Blog Tour and introducing me to a new Scottish author.

*** Missing Blog Tour Review***

Missing was lovely, dark and Scottish, combining moments of hilarity with a disturbing child protection case. I read it fairly quickly, over a day or so and was very engaged by Hunter.

This is a story of a police investigation into abuse within the family. This topic was handled with sensitivity and understanding. We got to see the victim, the relatives, the accused. We witnessed how the police and doctors handle these cases in Police Scotland.

DC Craig Hunter is called out to a house, where the daughter is accusing her Step-Father of sexual abuse. He is soon teamed with DS Chantal Jain of the Sexual Offenses Unit, as they try to get to the truth, of what has happened within this family. The case takes a clever twist, when Stephanie goes missing from the hospital, following her examination. Hunter and Jain have to trace Stephanie, across Edinburgh. Who would have taken her and why? Stephanie is vulnerable. Where is she?

There are some lighter moments, in Missing to balance the serious content. Hunter is subjected to some pretty funny scenarios, from rescuing cats to being accidentally covered in faeces. Proper policing! We also get some great inappropriate police banter thrown in as well! It all feels very authentic.

The continuity from the previous series featuring Scott Cullen went over my head. There is something for you, if you are already a fan! Cullen didn’t come across that well to me!

Missing exceeded my expectations and kept me highly entertaining. A cracking story, with an exciting lead in Hunter!

About Northern Crime

Reviewer with a mind of her own. This is a collection of book reviews, which started in 2014. Mostly crime and odd other genres thrown in. Some I loved. Some I loathed. You get the picture.
