Death Do Us Part – Steven Dunne

Even death cannot part these couples . . .

DI Damen Brook is on a rare period of leave and determined to make the most of it by re-connecting with his daughter Terri. But with her heavy drinking proving a challenge, Brook takes the opportunity to visit a local murder scene when his help is requested.

An elderly couple have each been executed with a single shot to the heart and the method echoes that of a middle-aged gay couple killed the previous month.

With the same killer suspected and the officer currently in charge nearing retirement, Brook knows that he has little choice but to cut short his leave when forced by his superiors to take the lead on the case.
Brook believes that he can catch this ruthless killer, but already distracted by Terri’s problems, is he about to make a fatal mistake and lead the killer right to his own door?

My thoughts

This should be a series, that every crime fan knows and loves. This is my alert to you all. Discover Damen Brook. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Brook!

Death Do Us Part is the sixth book in this excellent series. We have come a long way, since the Reaper killings. DI Brook is much more stable these days and his relationship with his sidekick, Noble, has grown beautifully. He is less of an outsider and seems to be tolerated more for his eccentricities. He is sharp as a knife and lovable as ever (in my eyes). We see his daughter, coping with the repercussions of the abuse from her step-father. She is drinking excessively.

Brook has a serial killer ask him to look into The Black Oak Farm murders. This is the brutal slaying of a family from a couple of years ago, where the daughter was the only survivor. He ends up being drawn into this, by the thoughtless actions of his daughter. He is also on the case of an elderly couple shot in their home, which seems to have links to another shooting a month earlier.

I was very drawn to the Black Oak Farm murders. This was so well executed. I could imagine the massacre and the after events. I even had an inkling of what might have happened. Steven Dunne WOW, just WOW!!!

I will now be begging and pleading with Steven Dunne for more Damen Brook. This is seriously amazing, totally gripping clever crime! If you have not discovered Damen Brook, start from the beginning with The Reaper and work your way through them all. You are in for a massive treat!

About Northern Crime

Reviewer with a mind of her own. This is a collection of book reviews, which started in 2014. Mostly crime and odd other genres thrown in. Some I loved. Some I loathed. You get the picture.
