It is a pleasure to re-post my five star review of the utterly brilliant The Silent Room, to celebrate the release in paperback today. I love the gorgeous new cover.

The Silent Room was one of my favourite books of 2015. I am hoping that you all get to discover it and love it as much as I do. It is very much recommended!

The Silent Room is available in paperback from 6th October 2016 on Amazon by Pan Macmillan.

Description of the book

A security van sets off for Durham prison, a disgraced Special Branch officer in the back. It never arrives. On route it is hijacked by armed men, the prisoner sprung. Suspended from duty on suspicion of aiding and abetting the audacious escape of his former boss, Detective Sergeant Matthew Ryan is locked out of the investigation.
With a manhunt underway, Ryan is warned to stay away. Keen to preserve his career and prove his innocence, he backs off. But when the official investigation falls apart, under surveillance and with his life in danger, he goes dark, enlisting others in his quest to discover the truth.
When the trail leads to the suspicious death of a Norwegian national, Ryan uncovers an international conspiracy that has claimed the lives of many.

My thoughts

Mari Hannah takes a detour from her successful Kate Daniels series and brings us a dark standalone thriller. It has a completely different feel to the Kate Daniels books. Mari Hannah ramps up the suspense and action big time, in The Silent Room. She completely impresses by injecting the wow factor! I was bewitched by it.

The action starts with a security van containing a prisoner being hijacked. The prisoner is Jack Fenwick, a police officer suspected of corruption. We follow Matthew Ryan, Fenwick’s best friend and colleague. Ryan is suspected of involvement in the escape. Ryan loses his police badge and cannot help his friend from the inside. He starts his own unofficial secret investigation. He joins forces with a retired colleague, Grace, and her ex-spook friend. As Ryan knows Fenwick is innocent of all charges, what is the truth behind the hijacking?

It is sharp, cleverly plotted and utterly absorbing. It is a story of fighting back, international shenanigans and friendships. Matthew Ryan is a likeable hero, with a tragic past and a devotion to his job. He cares about his friend and we see him go out of his way to help Fenwick’s wife and family.

If you have never read any Mari Hannah books before, this would be the perfect place to start. It is such an exciting read, with so much going on that you hardly stop for breath. It packs a massive punch and never lets go.

Mari Hannah’s talent just shines here. Read it and see! Recommended!

This threw me when I saw it in my inbox, as I knew you’d read it – you’d really recommended it to me! In fact, now is the perfect time for me to read it, as it’s out in paperback. Mr C has *helpfully!* packed all my review books into crates, so I’ll have a rummage and start it v soon. So glad to have my laptop back – I can catch up on all my reviews! This has been a disastrous year for me, with family illness and then laptop disaster, so I must do my best to get as many reviews up in the last three months of the year.
