Hi folks! I’m Lisa from Rambling Lisa’s Book Reviews. I mostly read crime thrillers and poems, however, I have been known to spread my wings a little further than that!

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

I am going to go down the classic road by suggesting Murder on the Orient Express as your crime summer read and I am going to tell you why!

I am sure we have all heard of both Agatha Christie along with her delightful Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. But have you ever read any of the Poirot series? Murder on the Orient Express is the 10th in the series and it does not let one down. We all know that at times as a series of books progresses they can go down hill. The wonderful thing about this series is, they can all be read as a standalone.

Here we have Mr Cassetti who is murdered and 13 other people on the train are connected in some shape or form to the family of a child, who Cassetti had murdered. The idea of 13 suspects over 2 or 3 is wonderfully complex and has the mind racing as you uncover what the motive of each might be. Poirot, as usual, methodically deduces what happened and tells the story with such a beautifully satisfying crescendo that it makes my heart and breath stop every single time.

I have also listened to this on audiobook, read by the amazing David Suchet who plays Poirot in the T.V. shows, and it was exhilarating to hear him reading the story. He knew exactly how each bit of dialogue or the details of the story should be read.

I have to say this is likely my all time favourite ‘whodunnit’ or as I like to call them ‘who did done do it?!’… Well worth a read this summer!

About Northern Crime

Reviewer with a mind of her own. This is a collection of book reviews, which started in 2014. Mostly crime and odd other genres thrown in. Some I loved. Some I loathed. You get the picture.
